Kyiv hit by Russian strikes: at least 9 dead, 28 wounded

Ukraine's capital Kyiv was struck overnight into Saturday by a series of Russian ballistic missiles, authorities said. At least nine people were killed and 28 others wounded in the attack.

Both Russia and Ukraine have ramped up strikes against each other in recent months. Moscow has increased its long-range attacks on cities across Ukraine, while Kyiv has continued its own retaliatory strikes.

The attack underscored the continuing toll on civilian areas as the war heads into its third year. International partners have repeatedly reiterated calls to strengthen Ukraine's air-defense capacity.
