US and Moroccan officials said the body of a US soldier who went missing during a joint military exercise has been found and identified. US European Command said the family had been notified and that operational details were being kept private.
The disappearance occurred during the annual "African Lion" exercise the two countries hold along the Atlantic coast. A wide search operation involving ground, sea and air assets was launched immediately after the incident.
Morocco's defence ministry said the investigation into the soldier's death is continuing and the findings will be shared publicly. Officials also said the exercise is still proceeding on its planned schedule. African Lion remains one of the largest annual US military drills in Africa.
