Trump-Xi summit produces no Iran war breakthrough as Beijing holds back on Hormuz
The Beijing summit between the US and Chinese leaders produced no concrete breakthrough on the Iran war. According to Al Jazeera, Washington pressed Beijing to take a more active role on the Strait of Hormuz, but Xi Jinping did not commit to a clear shift.

According to Al Jazeera, the Trump administration urged China during the Beijing meetings to step up diplomatic initiatives that could ease tensions in the Strait of Hormuz. Washington's proposals included Beijing clarifying its formal stance on Tehran and pursuing mediation steps between Iran and the Gulf states.
Xi Jinping's statements said China would "continue to take a constructive posture," but stopped short of any specific commitment to military or logistical action in Hormuz. Beijing said it supports preserving global energy flows, while insisting the political resolution of the conflict should run through the United Nations framework.
Regional analysts say Beijing has some leverage on Tehran given its crude purchases, but prefers not to intervene directly. Beijing-based academics speaking to Al Jazeera say China plans to extend its diplomatic footprint in the Middle East by spotlighting BRICS+ economic instruments in the coming months.
