The attack follows a broader escalation in long-range strikes by both sides in recent weeks. Ukrainian officials say Russia more than doubled its use of long-range missiles in July compared with previous months, part of an intensifying campaign against Ukrainian cities. On Tuesday, a separate strike on the Moscow region killed five people and wounded ten others, according to Russian officials.
Kyiv has repeatedly appealed to Western allies for additional air-defense systems to intercept incoming missiles and drones. Zelensky said Ukraine would raise the latest strikes with international partners as it seeks further support ahead of the war's next phase.
