Israeli strikes kill six in Gaza including Al Jazeera cameraman, officials say
Gaza health officials said Israeli air strikes on Friday killed six people including Al Jazeera cameraman Ahmed Wishah. The Israel Defense Forces described Wishah as a 'Hamas sniper operative' without providing supporting evidence, while Al Jazeera said the strike represented a deliberate targeting of press freedom.

Gaza Health Ministry officials said Wishah was at a house near the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza with family members and other civilians when the air strike hit. The six people killed include three children and a woman; two wounded were taken to hospital.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) issued a statement describing Wishah as a 'Hamas sniper operative' but did not provide documentary evidence to support the claim. Al Jazeera said Wishah was the network's 12th employee killed since the 2023 Gaza war began and announced it would file the case with the International Criminal Court.
The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) and Reporters Without Borders (RSF) both called for independent verification of the IDF claim and noted that press equipment and clearly marked clothing of Wishah's crew were visible at the time of the strike. The U.S. State Department called the journalist deaths 'concerning' and said it expected a transparent investigation by Israel.
