Trump wraps two-day China trip, invites Xi to Washington in September
President Donald Trump departed China after two days of talks dominated by trade, oil and Taiwan. Trump said the meetings produced progress on US energy sales and invited Xi Jinping for a return visit to Washington in September.

Speaking before leaving Beijing, Trump told reporters his discussions with Xi Jinping on trade and energy were "fantastic." The White House said China had agreed to buy US crude oil and that Boeing's expected aircraft order had been set at about 200 planes, smaller than earlier signalled.
Taiwan was the most contentious item on the agenda. Xi warned that mishandling the issue would jeopardise US-China ties, according to a Chinese readout. Trump left without making any new public commitment on Taiwan policy, and instead invited Xi for a follow-up visit to the White House in September 2026.
Markets reacted in mixed fashion. Oil prices rose on the prospect of expanded Chinese purchases of US crude, while Boeing shares slid after the aircraft order came in below earlier expectations. Investors are now watching for follow-up announcements on Taiwan and semiconductor export controls in the coming days.
