The game's only goal came in the 67th minute through Atlético Madrid's Sofyan Amrabat. Morocco had already won their group opener 2-1, putting them in a strong position to reach the last 16. Under head coach Walid Regragui, Morocco arrived at this tournament as one of the dark horses following the country's run to the 2022 semi-finals in Qatar.
Morocco's strong World Cup performance is amplifying favourable media visibility for the broader Maghreb economy. The tourism ministry reports that bookings from Europe and the Gulf have risen by double digits since the tournament began. Morocco's next group match is scheduled for next week.
