The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) said the number of Palestinian journalists killed in this conflict so far runs into the hundreds, and that those still working in the field face serious risk. Al Jazeera said Wishah was hit while conducting reporting; the Israel Defense Forces said there had been « a military target » in the area and that a review was under way.
The UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights has renewed its call for an independent investigation into journalist deaths in Gaza in recent months. The European Union and several media organisations also flagged threats to press freedom. The family said a memorial ceremony will be held on Monday in central Gaza.
