Ghana to evacuate 300 nationals from South Africa amid anti-immigrant protests
Ghana's Foreign Ministry has launched a programme to evacuate around 300 nationals from South Africa as anti-immigrant protests intensify. Pretoria said it would cooperate with the operation.

Ghana's Foreign Ministry has announced an evacuation operation to bring home citizens living in Pretoria, Johannesburg and Durban after a wave of anti-immigrant protests in recent weeks. About 300 people are scheduled to leave on free flights in the first phase.
A spokesperson for the South African Presidency said the country would provide logistical support for the programme. Officials reported that attacks on West African-owned businesses have risen over the past month.
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has placed the issue on its urgent agenda, while Nigeria, Senegal and Côte d'Ivoire are also considering similar evacuation options. Human rights groups continue to press the South African government for lasting protection measures.
