DW: Armenia's upcoming election is shaping into a choice between Russia and the EU
Deutsche Welle reports that the central axis of Armenia's election campaign is the choice between deeper EU alignment and a return to the Russia-Belarus orbit. The outcome will shape the balance of power in the South Caucasus, Yerevan's economic orientation, and the reopening of the Turkish border.

Deutsche Welle's Yerevan dispatch reports that Armenia's upcoming parliamentary election has reframed the campaign around the choice between an EU accession path and continued membership of the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union. The ruling party is highlighting visa liberalisation, access to EU structural funds, and the gradual reopening of the Turkish border.
The opposition bloc argues that economic stability depends on exports to the Russian market, cheap gas supplies, and logistics links through Belarus. Economists Deutsche Welle interviewed in Yerevan noted that the IMF's latest country report revised Armenian growth to 4.8 percent and that foreign-exchange reserves have reached a historic high.
The European Commission announced in November plans to accelerate the structural-alignment dialogue with Armenia, while Moscow could unveil fresh energy-discount packages. Türkiye has said the election outcome will be decisive for the negotiations on reopening the border crossing. This article is not investment advice.
