EU Imposes €3 Duty on Low-Value Imported Packages
The European Union has moved to curb what it sees as unfair competition from mostly Chinese online retailers by imposing a levy on low-value packages, DW reports. The step follows a similar move by the United States.

The European Union has introduced a €3 duty on low-value imported packages. According to DW, the bloc took the step to curb what it describes as unfair competition, largely from Chinese online retailers.
The measure targets the high volume of low-value shipments arriving through platforms such as Shein, Temu and AliExpress. Such packages had in many cases previously benefited from customs exemptions. The new levy aims to level the playing field for European retailers.
The decision follows a similar move by the United States, where Washington had also narrowed exemptions for low-value shipments. EU officials said the impact of the measure on consumers and platforms would be monitored. The timeline and details of implementation will become clearer in the period ahead.
