Uganda declares end to its latest Ebola outbreak
Uganda's health minister declared the country Ebola-free, following an outbreak that infected 20 people and killed two. The announcement comes even as the outbreak continues in neighboring DR Congo.
Uganda's health minister declared the country's latest viral haemorrhagic fever outbreak officially over. The outbreak had infected a total of 20 people and killed two.
The declaration follows the completion of a 42-day observation period without a new case being reported, the standard threshold the World Health Organization uses to declare an outbreak's end. Ugandan health officials credited rapid contact tracing and public health measures for the outcome.
The development comes as a separate Ebola outbreak continues in neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo, where cases have surpassed 3,200. Ugandan officials said they would remain vigilant in border regions.
