At least 30 people have died since May at the Kigonze displacement camp in the Democratic Republic of Congo's Ituri province. According to Al Jazeera, officials cited deteriorating conditions inside the camp alongside the regional Ebola outbreak as compounding risks.
The World Health Organization and the Congolese health ministry have stepped up surveillance after Ebola cases were confirmed in nearby districts. Doctors Without Borders (MSF) and UNICEF reported gaps in water, sanitation and vaccination access inside the camp.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said some aid convoys had been suspended because of security concerns in the area. Congolese authorities renewed calls for additional medical personnel and international support.
