Sudan has been engulfed in full-scale war since April 2023, fought between the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces and the Sudanese military. According to Armed Conflict Location & Event Data, a conflict monitoring group, at least 59,000 people have been killed so far.
Aid organizations say that figure is likely an undercount and that the true death toll could be many times higher. Restricted access on the ground continues to hamper independent verification and the delivery of humanitarian aid.
