Uganda's President Museveni sworn in for a record seventh term
Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni was sworn in for a record seventh term in Kampala. The ceremony followed the January elections and was boycotted by opposition parties. The economic agenda highlights investment, energy and regional trade priorities.

Yoweri Museveni took the constitutional oath of office for the seventh time at the Kololo ceremony in Kampala. In power since 1986, Museveni was declared the winner of the January election according to the official results.
The ceremony was attended by heads of state and government from neighbouring countries. Opposition parties chose not to attend, citing their objections to the electoral process. In his speech, the president said the government would focus on regional infrastructure, youth employment programmes and agricultural modernisation.
In the economy, the government's priorities centre on deepening trade integration within the East African Community and completing the Hoima refinery and oil pipeline project. The shilling traded in a narrow range against the US dollar over the past week, while Uganda's equity market saw limited turnover.
