Son of Norway's Crown Princess sentenced to four years for rape
Marius Borg Hoiby, son of Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit from a previous relationship, was sentenced to four years in prison by an Oslo court on Monday after being found guilty of raping four women. The 27-year-old will also pay damages to the victims. The verdict closes the largest judicial crisis to hit the Norwegian monarchy in decades.

The Oslo District Court on Monday found Hoiby guilty of rape and sexual assault against four women between 2024 and 2025 and sentenced him to four years in prison. The court also ordered him to pay a combined 1.8 million kroner (around €165,000) in damages to the victims.
The Norwegian royal household said the verdict was "a ruling of the justice system that must be respected". Crown Princess Mette-Marit and her husband Crown Prince Haakon cancelled scheduled royal engagements on Monday. Hoiby's lawyer said the defence would appeal the ruling.
The case has been one of Norway's highest-profile sexual violence trials in years. Norwegian women's groups said the verdict marked an important step for victims, noting that the public proceedings encouraged other women to come forward.
