Lebanon says death toll from latest Israeli air strikes climbs to 39
The Lebanese Health Ministry says the death toll from Israeli air strikes across the country in the past 48 hours has risen to 39. Beirut accuses Israel of systematically violating the US-mediated ceasefire that was meant to halt cross-border fighting with Hezbollah.

The Lebanese Health Ministry says Israeli air strikes over the past 48 hours on south Lebanon, the Bekaa Valley and the southern suburbs of Beirut have killed 39 people. The number of wounded has more than doubled to over 80 in the same period.
The Beirut government says the US-brokered ceasefire that took effect in 2024 has been 'systematically' violated in recent months and that civilian infrastructure has been damaged in the latest waves of bombing. The Israeli military says the strikes targeted Hezbollah weapons depots and command structures, and insists it has acted to minimise civilian harm.
France and the United States have re-engaged on a new buffer mechanism along the Lebanon-Israel border. Türkiye's Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement calling for an immediate halt to attacks on civilians and respect for Lebanese sovereignty. Beirut is also preparing a fresh appeal to the UN Security Council on the cross-border violations.
