Palestinians Mark 78 Years Since the Nakba Amid Ongoing Displacement
Palestinians marked the 78th anniversary of the Nakba, which commemorates the mass displacement of 1948, with ceremonies across the West Bank, Gaza and the diaspora. The events came against the backdrop of the ongoing Gaza conflict and tensions in the West Bank.

Palestinians commemorate the Nakba, their term for the mass displacement during the 1948 founding of Israel, on its 78th anniversary with ceremonies in Ramallah, Hebron, Doha and Amman. Speakers recalled that, according to UN data, the registered Palestinian refugee population now totals about six million.
Palestinian academics and civil-society figures said this year's commemoration moved beyond historical remembrance to 'document the present,' citing the Gaza conflict and tensions in the West Bank. UNRWA said demand for humanitarian aid remains very high.
Israel has long contested the political framing of the Nakba. Commemorations were also held in several European capitals, signalling growing public pressure on governments.
